Dowitchers (dow·itch·ers) are shorebirds belonging to the family Scolopacidae. The territory for the Long-billed (Limnodromus scolopaceus) and Short-billed (Limnodromus griseus) Dowitcher can overlap, and includes shallow ponds, mudflats, beaches and pools where they may gather in large flocks.

Dowitchers migrate through the Santa Barbara, California region and can be seen near the surf’s edge where they hunt for food.
